Design and Product Development Incentive

Design incentive (full name Design and Product Development Incentive) is provided by the Ministry of Commerce (formerly Ministry of Economy).

 

The design project can be evaluated under two parts.

 1. Fashion Design

 2. Industrial Product Design

 

1. In the context of fashion design; Textile companies (ready-to-wear, fabric production, leather industry, etc.) with a design team (designer, modelist and engineer, etc.) can benefit from this incentive .

 

2. In terms of industrial product design, the scope is quite broad. All companies that design and manufacture industrial products, from aluminum products to pot design, from steel products to machine design, can benefit from this incentive .

With the Design and Product Development Incentive ;

• In order to create and disseminate the design culture in Turkey; expenditures related to promotion, advertising, marketing, employment, patent, utility model and industrial design registration to be realized by designer companies, design offices and cooperation organizations, consultancy expenditures and expenses related to the units they will open abroad are supported.
• In addition, the Ministry supports education and living abroad expenses of 60 designers who were ranked during related competitions.
• In addition, for the Design and Product Development Projects to be realized by the companies, the gross salaries, tools, equipment, material and software expenses, travel and website membership expenses of the designers, modelists and engineers employed are supported.

Who Can Benefit From Design Incentive?

    1-Companies Developing Products

Companies that need innovation to increase the export potential of their products or operate in fashion design/industrial design

    2- Design Offices

Companies operating in the fields of industrial product design or fashion design, which only provide design services and/or consultancy and have at least three designers.

    3-Designer Company

Companies operating in commercial and/or industrial activities in Turkey, in which the designer is a partner, operating in the fields of industrial product design or fashion design.

    4-Cooperation Organizations

Turkish Exporters Assembly (TIM), The Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey (TOBB), Foreign Economic Relations Board of Turkey (DEIK), exporters’ unions, associations, unions and foundations related with design, chambers of commerce and/or industry, industrial zones, organized industrial zones, technology development zones, sector associations and organizations, sectoral foreign trade companies, commodity exchanges, employers' unions and associations, unions and cooperatives established by manufacturers.

 

Incentive for Design and Product Development Projects

Design and product development projects are projects that will be implemented in order to increase the fashion, industrial design and innovation capacities of companies and to produce export-oriented value-added products.

Significant amounts of incentives are given by the state to the projects within this scope.

• The gross salary of the designers, modelists and engineers employed is a maximum of $ 1.000.000 in total,
• Tools, equipment, materials and software expenses in total maximum $ 250.000,
• Travel and website membership expenses up to a maximum of $150.000 in total

Incentive rate is 50% for each project.

• A maximum of one project of a company is supported.

Incentive for Designer Companies

50% of the expenses listed below to be made by the designer companies in order to be recognized and branded abroad are paid back to the company in cash by the state.

• Promotional expenditures to be made abroad (up to $ 300.000 per year),
• Installation/decoration expenses and concept architectural works of abroad units (up to $ 100.000 per year),
• Gross rent and tax/duty expenses of units that are operating abroad (up to $ 200.000 per year),
• Expenses related to patent, utility model and industrial design registration, and expenses related to registration, renewal and protection of trademarks abroad (up to $50.000  per year),
• Gross salary expenses of employed designers and modelists (up to $150.000 per year)
• Expenses related to the consultancy they will receive in order to increase their competitive advantage in international markets (up to $ 200.000 per year)

 

Incentive for Design Offices

50% of the expenses listed below to be made by the design offices in order to be recognized and branded abroad are paid back to the company in cash by the state.

 

• Promotional expenditures to be made abroad (up to $ 150.000 per year),
• Installation/decoration expenses and concept architectural works of overseas units (up to $ 50.000 per year),
• Gross rent and tax/duty expenses of units that are operating abroad (up to $ 100.000 per year),
• Expenses related to patent, utility model and industrial design registration, and expenses related to registration, renewal and protection of trademarks abroad (up to $50.000  per year),
• Gross salary expenses of employed designers and modelists (up to $200.000 per year)
• Expenses related to the consultancy they will receive in order to increase their competitive advantage in international markets (up to $100.000 per year)

 

Incentive for Cooperation Organizations

The below-listed expenditures of cooperation organizations for the creation and dissemination of the design culture and the promotion, marketing and branding of Turkish designers and products in domestic and international markets are supported by 50% and a maximum of $300.000 per project.

• Visual and written promotion expenses
• Exhibition
• Biennial
• Design fair
• Design competition participations and organizations
• Promotion, advertising and marketing expenditures of these activities
